单词 destructive margin
释义
destructive margin

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • The contact between two lithospheric plates which are moving towards each other and where oceanic crust is being destroyed by subduction. Destructive margins, a type of convergent margin, are marked by shallow- to deep-focus earthquakes and typically andesitic volcanicity, and most are also marked by an oceanic trench. See also plate margin.

Geography
  • The zone where two plates meet, and oceanic crust is subducted beneath either oceanic or continental lithosphere, changing to the more ductile, fluid-like, denser rocks of the aesthenosphere via increases in temperature and pressure. Subduction creates strong compression at the plate margins, piling up unconsolidated segments and pieces of rock slabs into a wedge (R. Krebs 2003).
