Cat 7 (Category 7) A type of cabling that is specified in ANSI/EIA/TIA 568, and ISO/IEC 11801. Cat 7 was developed specifically in support of 10 GbE, spreading the signals over each of four pairs. Cat 7 runs over 22–24 AWG shielded twisted pair (STP) with a combination foil and braided screen construction. Cat 7 is rated at 600 MHz, although the usable spectrum can be up to 750 MHz. In ISO/IEC 11801 terms, Cat 7 falls into Class F (≤ 600 MHz). See also 10GbE, AWG, and STP. |
