| 释义 | Cable Communications Policy Act (CCPA) In the United States, an act of Congress (1984) that amended the Communications Act of 1934 and established a national policy with respect to cable television (CATV) communications.The Act sought to facilitate cable system and services deployment by regulating what were considered the excessive demands that some local governments attempted to impose on CATV providers. In exchange for what was widely considered a curtailment of the authority of local governments to regulate cable systems, local governments were granted the right to collect franchise fees not to exceed five percent of the cable operator’s gross revenues. The Act, among other things, regulates the local franchise renewal and transfer process as well as protects the personal information of customers of CATV operators by restricting the collection, maintenance, and dissemination of subscriber data by cable operators.The CCPA was later amended by the Cable Television Protection and Competition Act of 1992 and the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
