GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) In the United States, a land-mobile licensed radio service designed for short distance two-way communications to facilitate the activities of an adult individual and his or her family members. GMRS radios operate at in the 462–467 MHz band at a power level of 1–5 watts and may have detachable antennas. Dual mode sets are available that also operate as Family Radio Service (FRS) radios.The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates FRS and GMRS, both of which are in the family of personal radio services.
