| 释义 | microbend An abrupt discontinuity in the core/cladding interface of an optical fiber, a microbend can be in the form of a small bulge, dent, kink, or slight axial displacement. Microbends typically are caused by trauma to the fiber during the manufacturing process when the fibers are being drawn, coated, cabled, and reeled. Microbends also can be created by trauma during the installation process if, for example, metal clips are left on too long or tie wraps (i.e., zip ties) are cinched too tight and the fiber is compressed excessively. Although a microbend does not compromise the physical integrity of the fiber, it can cause a small amount of bending loss. See also bending loss and macrobend. |
