The point at which the current flowing through an electronic device is cut off by the control electrode. In a transistor, the cut-off point is the minimum base current at which the device conducts. In a valve it is the minimum negative grid voltage (the grid base) required to stop the current. In a cathode-ray tube the cut-off bias is the bias voltage that just reduces the electron-beam current to zero. In all cases the values are dependent on the conditions at the other electrodes, which must be specified.
