A colloquial name for the Supplementary Special Deposits Scheme. This was a UK monetary device used from 1973 to 1980, controlling the growth of bank deposits and interest-bearing eligible liabilities. The scheme was abandoned because the effect of imposing quota limits to the expansion of particular institutions was thought to be anti-competitive.
