单词 de Sitter universe
释义
de Sitter universe

Physics
  • A model of the universe proposed by Willem de Sitter in 1917, based on the then new general theory of relativity. It was realized by Cornelius Lanczos in 1922 that this model represents the universe expanding exponentially fast. Although this is thought to have been a realistic description of the universe during inflation, the overall expansion of the universe is better described by the Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker model.

Astronomy
  • A model of an expanding universe in which there is no matter or radiation but the expansion is driven by a cosmological constant. It was proposed in 1917 by W. de Sitter. Although this model is physically unrealistic, it introduced the idea that the real Universe might be expanding. An expansion phase which is very similar to that in the de Sitter model also plays an important role in modern theories of the inflationary universe.
