Symbol Cn. A radioactive transactinide element; a.n. 112. It was first made in 1996 at Darmstadt, Germany, by bombarding lead-208 nuclei with zinc-70 nuclei. About 75 atoms of copernicium have been made. This element is named after the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
