Chernyshevski, Nikolai Gavrilovich (1828–89) Philosophy
who spent much of his life imprisoned in Siberia. He was an inspiration to engaged liberal intellectuals, admired by Plekhanov and Lenin, and in official Soviet ideology regarded as the greatest Russian philosopher before Marx.
