A goat-antelope (family Bovidae, subfamily Caprinae), native to the mountains of southern and central Europe, Turkey, and the Caucasus, and introduced in New Zealand. They stand 70–80 cm tall at the shoulder and both males and females have short horns curved back at the tips. They are hunted for meat and their hides (chamois leather). There are two species, Rupicapra rupicapra and R. pyrenaica, with several subspecies.
