An abbreviation for Conseil Européen des Fédérations de l’Industrie Chimique, it is an organization based in Brussels representing around 30,000 chemical companies, which account for about one-fifth of the world’s chemical production. Founded in 1959, it comprises corporate, national federation, and business members and has responsibility for logistics, policy, international legislation, research and innovation, and means of public communication on chemical substances and their production. CEFIC is a member of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA).
