The last in a series of ten NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center missions to monitor the solar wind and measure the plasma field environment of the Earth’s magnetosheath and the magnetotail. It was launched on 26 October 1973, from Cape Canaveral, into a geocentric elliptical orbit. Decommissioned in 2001, it was the longest-lived geocentric space physics mission NASA had ever flown.
