单词 cathode
释义
cathode

Physics
  • A negative electrode. In electrolysis cations are attracted to the cathode. In vacuum electronic devices electrons are emitted by the cathode and flow to the anode. It is therefore from the cathode that electrons flow into these devices. However, in a primary or secondary cell the cathode is the electrode that spontaneously becomes negative during discharge, and from which therefore electrons emerge.

Chemical Engineering
  • A negative electrode. In the process of electrolysis in which electricity is passed through an electrolyte, positively charged ions (i.e. cations) are attracted to the cathode. Compare anode.

Electronics and Electrical Engineering
  • The negative electrode of an electrolytic cell, discharge tube, valve, or solid-state rectifier. The electrode by which electrons enter (and conventional current leaves) a system. Compare anode.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • See cation.
