A semi-aquatic carnivore of the weasel family (Mustelidae) that has soft, glossy fur formerly highly prized for clothing; this lead to the establishment of mink farms, escapes from which allowed the mink to extend its range. Mink feed on fish, other vertebrates, and bird eggs. There are two species, the European mink (Mustela lutreola) and American mink (Neovison vison).
