Any animal which eats only animal flesh. At the top of a pyramid of numbers, top carnivores are usually the rarest, largest, and most complex animals. With their large body size, low abundance, and large home range requirements, top carnivores are particularly vulnerable to changes in habitat (Raffaelli (2004) Science 306).
