An observatory at an altitude of 3050 metres on the island of Maui, Hawaii, owned and managed by the University of Hawaii Institute of Astronomy, originally opened in 1957 as a satellite tracking station. It is the site of the 4-m Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope; the 2-m Faulkes Telescope North and two 0.4-m reflectors of the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network; the twin 1.8-m Pan-STARRS telescopes; a 0.5-m Schmidt telescope of the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System; and the 3.67-m reflector and other telescopes of the US Air Force Maui Space Surveillance System.
