2. A self-contained explosive device (bomb) used in warfare to destroy enemy personnel or targets. A land mine is concealed on or below ground. A naval mine floats in the water until detonated by contact with a vessel, to which it may be attracted magnetically. A parachute mine is similar to a naval mine, but dropped by parachute from an aircraft.
