Photometric observations made at the South African Astronomical Observatory, mostly from its site in Cape Town (formerly the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope). These observations were intended to extend the UBV system of Johnson photometry to the southern hemisphere. Some U magnitudes were measured with refractors, in which the objective lens seriously reduced the amount of ultraviolet light transmitted; these observations are differentiated by the symbol U_c.
