A Soviet satellite for X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy, launched in 1989 December. It carried seven X-ray and gamma-ray instruments. The ART-S and ART-P high-pressure proportional counters cover the energy range 3–150 keV. The French Sigma coded-mask telescope operates in the energy range 30–1300 keV. Denmark provided the WATCH all-sky monitor. Granat ceased operation in 1998 November.
