Camarda was selected for astronaut training in 1996. His first flight was on the Discovery space shuttle in July–August 2005. Following this flight, he was director of engineering at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and currently serves as senior adviser for innovation to the Office of Chief Engineer at NASA Headquarters.
