A university in Pasadena, California, that is the home of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It was established in 1891 and is noted for its many Nobel prizewinners. The aeronautical laboratory was already developing liquid and solid propellants for rockets by 1939 and worked closely with the US Army on missiles during World War II. In 1987, Caltech and Russia's Space Research Institute signed an agreement to collaborate on research.
