A religious movement founded by Sun Myung Moon (1920–2012) in South Korea in 1954. Members are popularly known as the ‘Moonies’. Its theology, found in the Divine Principle, claims that a sinless man (often thought to be Moon himself) could save the world and form the kingdom of God on Earth. There are said to be 3 million members. The movement has attracted controversy through its business practices and accusations that it brainwashes new recruits into absolute obedience.
