Several satellites launched by Brazil to create a telecommunications network. Brasilsat 1 was launched by an Ariane 3 rocket on 10 August 1994, with others to follow; the last of which (Brasilsat 4) was launched on 17 August 2000. Brasilsat 1 provided service until March 2002 when it was placed into a graveyard orbit. The remaining satellites are still operational, and other South American nations can lease or buy television channels on the network.
