A device used to separate particles from air or a gas stream. Particles in sizes that typically range from 5 to 200 μm enter the separator with a high velocity, and are swirled around the circular chamber as a vortex under centrifugal action, and descend to the bottom of the separator for collection. The separated particle-free air or gas leaves the top of the separator. Cyclone separators are commonly used after a spray drying process to collect the dried product.
