Mathiessen’s rule

In simple terms, a means of combining the carrier scattering rates due to the different scattering mechanisms that occur in a semiconductor; the individual scattering rates are added directly. This is the same as adding the reciprocals of the relaxation times (τ) associated with each scattering process:
$\frac{l}{τ} = Σ_{scattering processes} \frac{l}{τ_{i}}$
The overall mobility (μ) is determined in a similar way:
$\frac{l}{μ} = Σ_{scattering processes} \frac{l}{μ_{i}}$
