The ratio of the number of turns, n₂, active in the secondary circuit of a transformer to the number of turns, n₁, in the primary winding. In the case of a simple transformer with no tappings n₂ is the number of turns in the secondary winding. In the case of a current transformer the ratio of the currents is the inverse of the turns ratio, i.e.
