A disinfectant manufactured from caustic soda dissolved in water and reacted with the chlorine in either a batch or continuous process. The chlorine and caustic soda are made by the electrolysis of salt solutions. Industrial bleach includes calcium hypochlorite, chlorine, and hydrogen peroxide, and is used as a disinfectant and in the paper and textile industries. Domestic household bleach is an aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl, made from caustic soda, chlorine, and water.
