A bird that feeds on other animals, belonging to the families Accipitridae (eagles, kites, buzzards, Old World vultures, etc.), Pandionidae (ospreys), Sagittaridae (secretary birds), Falconidae (falcons, etc.), Cathartidae (New World vultures), Strigidae (owls), and Tytonidae (barn and bay owls). All possess keen eyesight or hearing to detect moving prey, strong talons to seize and hold prey, and a strong, curved bill for tearing flesh.
