A type of electronics based on changes in the electrical properties of a material caused by external magnetic fields. Early work on magnetoelectronics was largely concerned with giant magnetoresistance. More generally, magnetoelectronics is concerned with whether the carriers have up spin or down spin, rather than whether the carriers are electrons or holes. Thus magnetoelectronics can be regarded as part of spintronics. Magnetoelectronics is used to store, display, and process information in electronic devices.
