单词 lunar roving vehicle
释义
lunar roving vehicle

Space Exploration
  • A small vehicle, resembling a dune buggy, used on the surface of the Moon by the astronauts of Apollo 15 (1971), Apollo 16 (1972), and Apollo 17 (1972). Battery powered and weighing 209 kg on Earth, the LRV was built to withstand extreme temperatures and a vacuum. It had an antenna shaped like an inverted umbrella mounted on top to send television pictures and sound to Earth; the Apollo 15 camera also provided the first pictures of a lift-off from the Moon. On Apollo 17, the crew of the last mission to visit the Moon covered 34 km in the two-seat, four-wheel vehicle, travelling over the rough surface to collect rocks.

The Soviet Union sent two uncrewed Lunokhod roving vehicles to the Moon in 1970 and 1973 to take photographs and scoop up soil that was returned to Earth.

There are some very good pictures of the rover on the Moon. Links are provided to several other lunar rover sites and to the very technical Lunar Rover Operations Handbook.
