A member of a committee chosen in March 1310 by the English lords who were opposed to Edward II. They had forced Edward II to agree to the appointment of this committee of 21 lords, with full power to reform both his household and realm; he had infuriated many peers by his infatuation with Gaveston, and they wished to make the crown’s officials answerable to Parliament. The resultant ordinances were drawn up by August 1311, and the Ordainers enforced them until Edward II won the battle of Boroughbridge (1321) and at the Parliament of York in 1322 annulled all the ordinances and reasserted his authority.
