The temperature defined in terms of the laws of thermodynamics and therefore independent of the properties of the body being measured. It is usually expressed using the kelvin scale. It is not measured directly but is usually inferred from measurements with a gas thermometer that contains a nearly ideal gas. The thermodynamic method to specify temperature was proposed by Lord Kelvin.
