单词 McCarran Act (1951)
释义
McCarran Act (1951)

World History
  • A US Act that required the registration of communist organizations and individuals, prohibited the employment of communists in defence work, and denied US entry to anyone who had belonged to a communist or fascist organization. It arose out of the fear in the early 1950s of a communist conspiracy against the USA. In 1965 the Supreme Court ruled that individuals could refuse to admit being communists by claiming the constitutional privilege enshrined in the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination.
