单词 leaching
释义
leaching

Chemistry
  • Extraction of soluble components of a solid mixture by percolating a solvent through it.

Chemical Engineering
  • A separation process involving the extraction of soluble components of a solid by percolating a solvent through it. The solid carrier material is inert and contains the solute for extraction. The solvent is added to selectively dissolve the solute. The overflow or leachate consists of the solvent and dissolved solute, while the underflow consists of a slurry with a similar composition to the overflow and also contains the solid carrier. In an ideal leaching equilibrium stage, all the solute is dissolved by the solvent and none of the carrier is dissolved. The efficiency of the leaching process is dependent on the type of equipment used and the properties of the materials used. Examples include the separation of metal from ore using acid, the extraction of caffeine from coffee beans or tea leaves using hot water, and the extraction of sugar from sugar beets using hot water.

Biology
  • 1. The transport of plant nutrients in solution by rainwater or irrigation from the upper soil layers to deeper layers where they become unavailable to plants.

    2. Extraction of the soluble components of a solid mixture by percolating a solvent through it.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • Removal of soil materials in solution.

Geography
  • The movement of water down the soil profile. This results in the movement of cations, sesquioxides, clay colloids, and humus to the lower soil horizons. Specific types of leaching include: lixiviation (the removal of the soluble salts containing metallic cations); the removal of chelates; lessivage; and, in tropical soils, desilication.
