A plane about a planet upon which a satellite’s orbital plane precesses because of perturbations. In the usual case where the satellite’s orbit is perturbed both by the oblateness of the planet and by the Sun, the Laplacian plane lies between the planet’s equatorial plane and the planet’s orbital plane about the Sun. It is named after the French mathematician P. S. de Laplace.
