A tariff imposed to protect domestic producers of a good against competition from dumping of imports. Such duties are imposed only after investigation of complaints by domestic producers. As it is difficult to define dumping, and there is no internationally agreed procedure for deciding when it has occurred, the threat of anti-dumping duties is a general obstacle to the expansion of international trade.
