A genus (Amaryllis) comprising two species of flowering plants (family Amaryllidaceae), grown from bulbs. Owing to confusion between two genera, the name amaryllis is often applied to Hippeastrum, about 90 species and more than 600 cultivars of plants grown from bulbs, mainly as indoor houseplants.
