  • The branch of mechanics concerned with the motions of objects without being concerned with the forces that cause the motion. In this latter respect it differs from dynamics, which is concerned with the forces that affect motion. See also equation of motion.

Mathematics

  • The study of the motion of bodies without reference to the forces causing the motion. It is concerned with such matters as the positions, the velocities and the accelerations of the bodies.

Chemical Engineering

  • The branch of mechanics that is concerned with the motion of bodies considered abstractly and without reference to force or mass. Compare dynamics.

Geology and Earth Sciences

  • The study of the movement of rocks.
