A comet with a perihelion distance between 6 and 15 solar radii and which is a member of one of several comet families having similar orbital elements. Three major groups so far identified are the Kracht group, the Marsden group, and the Meyer group. Sunskirting comets have been seen only with the coronagraphs aboard the SOHO spacecraft. They differ from Kreutz sungrazers in not passing quite so close to the solar surface.
