A file containing in some suitable intermediate form one or more jobs awaiting execution. The jobs are commonly presented as JCL statements that may be preprocessed so as to eliminate the more blatant errors of syntax or other detectable errors before being appended to the job file. In the context of scripting job files are often now referred to as shell scripts.
