A fire that results from the ignition of a release of flammable liquid or vapour. It can be the intentional result of flaring or accidental result such as through the rupture of a natural gas pipeline or a valve leak. The direction of the jet is dependent on the prevailing wind conditions. The hazard through the exposure to thermal radiation is dependent on the rate of release and on the heat of combustion of the fuel involved. A jet flame is the combustion of flammable liquid or gas emerging with significant momentum from an orifice or opening.
