单词 adsorption
释义
adsorption

Physics
  • The formation of a layer of gas, liquid, or solid on the surface of a solid or, less frequently, of a liquid. There are two types depending on the nature of the forces involved. In chemisorption a single layer of molecules, atoms, or ions is attached to the adsorbent surface by chemical bonds. In physisorption adsorbed molecules are held by the weaker van der Waals’ forces. Adsorption is an important feature of surface reactions, such as corrosion, and heterogeneous catalysis. The property is also utilized in adsorption chromatography.

Chemistry
  • The formation of a layer of gas, liquid, or solid on the surface of a solid or, less frequently, of a liquid. There are two types depending on the nature of the forces involved. In chemisorption a single layer of molecules, atoms, or ions is attached to the adsorbent surface by chemical bonds. In physisorption adsorbed molecules are held by the weaker van der Waals’ forces. Adsorption is an important feature of surface reactions, such as corrosion, and heterogeneous catalysis. The property is also utilized in adsorption chromatography.

Chemical Engineering
  • A process in which components in gases, liquids, or dissolved substances are selectively held on the surface of a solid. It is used to remove components that may otherwise be harmful if released into the environment or may cause process difficulties further downstream such as causing the poisoning of a catalyst. Adsorption usually takes place in fixed beds.

Biology
  • The formation of a layer of solid, liquid, or gas on the surface of a solid or, less frequently, of a liquid. There are two types depending on the nature of the forces involved. In chemisorption a single layer of molecules, atoms, or ions is attached to the adsorbent surface by chemical bonds. In physisorption adsorbed molecules are held by the weaker physical forces. The property is utilized in adsorption chromatography.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • The attachment of an ion, molecule, or compound to the charged surface of a particle, usually of clay or humus, from where it may be subsequently replaced or exchanged. Ions carrying positive charges (e.g. those of calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium) become attached to, or adsorbed by, negatively charged surfaces (e.g. those of clay or humus). Compare absorption. See also sorption.

Geography
  • In soil science, the addition of ions or molecules to the electrically charged surface of a particle of clay or humus. In this way, minerals become bonded to soil particles (M. Ashman and G. Puri 2002). An adsorption complex is an ‘organic and inorganic substance in soil that can absorb ions or molecules’ (K. Peverill et al. 1999).
