单词 Addled Parliament (5 April–7 June 1614)
释义
Addled Parliament (5 April–7 June 1614)

World History
  • The nickname given to James I of England’s second Parliament. In the absence of effective guidance from crown or councillors, those opposed to the king’s policies were able to divert the House of Commons to discussion of grievances, including church reform, import duties, and court interference at the elections. The king dissolved the Parliament before it had passed any legislation—hence the term ‘addled’ meaning empty or muddled—and ruled without one until 1621.
