Software that sends unauthorized details of a computer’s data or of its use (for example, a log of all keystrokes) to a third party, usually over the Internet. Spyware is often concealed in downloaded web pages and installs itself surreptitiously, either by exploiting security weaknesses or by tricking the user into giving consent, and is difficult to remove. It is a type of malware.
