A hypergolic rocket propellant composed of monomethyl hydrazine oxidized by nitrogen tetroxide, used on the space shuttle. When the shuttle separates from its external fuel tank at an altitude of about 113 km, it must fire hydrazine fuel from the two rockets of its orbital manoeuvring system for 2.5 minutes to obtain orbit.
