单词 Human Development Index
释义
Human Development Index

Geography
  • A compound indicator of economic development, established by the United Nations, which attempts to get away from purely monetary measurements by combining per capita GNP with life expectancy and literacy in a weighted average. ‘Human Development is a development paradigm that is about much more than the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. People are the real wealth of nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value’ (UNDP).

Economics
  • A composite measure of development of a country introduced by the United Nations Development Programme Human Development Report; a combination of the indicators of health (life expectancy at birth), education (mean years of schooling for adults aged 25 and expected years of schooling for children of school age), and living standards (PPP-adjusted gross national product per capita). By construction, the Human Development Index takes values between 0 and 1; in 2014 Norway had the highest (0.944) and Niger the lowest (0.348) HDI of 188 countries.
