Hulse–Taylor pulsar

  • A binary system discovered in 1974 consisting of a pulsar orbiting with a companion star. It was used to demonstrate, by measurements of a period of time, that the system was emitting gravitational waves. It also enabled other precise tests to be made of the general theory of relativity. It is named after the US physicists Russell Hulse (1950– ) and Joseph Taylor (1941– ).
