A major shower of iron meteorites that fell in the western part of the Sikhote–Alin mountain range in southeast Siberia on the morning of 1947 February 12. A total of 383 impact sites were found, spread over 1.6 km2. The largest crater was 27 m in diameter. The parent body broke up at about 5 km altitude, producing about 70 tonnes of metal fragments, containing both hexahedrite and octahedrite material. The largest single fragment weighed over 1.7 tonnes. A dark dust train, marking the path of the fireball, remained in the sky for several hours.
