A deciduous tree (family Sapindaceae) up to 36 m tall, native to south-eastern Europe but grown widely elsewhere in parks and streets. Its flowers are produced in showy panicles, and the seeds (conkers) resemble chestnuts and are probably poisonous to horses, hence the common name, although chestnuts and horse chestnuts are not closely related.
